Contemporary extensions to a  existing freestanding timber cottage.
The proposal is for a rear ground and first floor contemporary addition that is light weight in structure and designed to draw in the natural light and capture the north easterly sea breezes from the ocean.

The new addition is to be self supporting from the timber cottage so a steel frame structure with infill wall panels was chosen early in the design. This gave the opportunity to use exposed framing and we also chose to use polished concrete floors that will give the addition a contemporary feel – a welcome contrast from  the timber cottage. The courtyard and split level will allow flow of natural light and keep the spaces connected with each other.
