McNally Architects attends Australian Dementia Design School

As Australia’s population ages so will the number of people living with dementia. McNally Architects this week attended a Dementia Design School run by The Dementia Centre in partnership with The Dementia Services Development Centre.
Key speakers at the event were Emeritus Professor Mary Marshall, who for sixteen years was director of the University of Stirling, Scotland's Dementia Services Development Centre; David McNair; and Colm Cunningham. Staff had access to the latest evidence-based research from around the world on dementia care. Design principles, lighting, acoustics, interiors, gardens, outside spaces, balconies and terraces, assistive technology
were discussed. Along with strategies to design for success  and serving the needs of both staff and clients: reducing adverse incidents, optimising the comfort of clients and staff, reducing behavioural symptoms of clients, reducing staff turnover, maximizing delivery of quality care.
