‘The Bay’ Nursing Home, Blakehurst

This is a new 300 bed Nursing Home that faces north. It overlooks a lovely reserve that meanders down to the Georges River.

The proposal is forward thinking with its planning and the way aged care facilities will operate into the future. The latest in aged care technology will be incorporated into the facility to ensure seamless daily operation and then safety and care of its residence will be guaranteed.

The proposal is built around a central north-facing courtyard that creates a small-scale community urban environment that allows residence to roam, enjoy and interact with others and the landscape. This also allows staff to monitor residence continuously in a secured environment.

The buildings corridors are wide to allow for ‘street corridor’ spaces. This creates small ‘break-out’ spaces for residence and family to gather. These corridors allow natural light to penetrate through the building to the lower levels. These ‘environmental atriums’ are the respiratory system of the building.

The facility will provide to residence additional services, some being: café corridors, cinema room and a therapy pool that also opens to a lower private courtyard. These facilities will also be available for local community use.
